Due to the lightweight nature of FRP ( 1.5 - 2.0 lbs/ sq. ft.), the Class 1 fire rated rafter tails are easy to install and very cost effective. Unlike heavy timber parts, the FRP rafter tails will not crack, split or check and require no maintenance for the building owner. This resort is very close to the ocean which is a very difficult environment for wood to last in without developing cracks or rot due to moisture absorbsion. FRP is impervious to water and is unaffected by high humidity and moisture.
The owners of the hotel wanted to offer a five star hotel with an elegant interior in the European tradition of elegance. The interior design was based upon classical ornamentation of high end millwork with columns, pilasters and detailed light coves. By selecting GRG, the architect was able to utilize radius walls and domes and elegant collande at a cost that would have not been possible with wood or carved plaster. Since this was also a hotel, the GRG was able to provide a non-combustible rating required for public areas with the fire code. The flexibility in design coupled with the extreme detail we were able to achieve with our cast product allowed us to achieve the architect's vision for this world class hotel.
